11 Apr 2016: UPI begins as an interoperable payments pilot. The National Payments Corporation of India launched the Unified Payments Interface pilot on 11 April 2016 with 21 member banks. 1 Jul 2017: GST restructures indirect taxation. The Goods and Services Tax replaced numerous central and state indirect taxes with a shared national framework.
