Union of India, a Constitution Bench held Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code unconstitutional insofar as it criminalised consensual sexual relations between adults. The Supreme Court decriminalises consensual same-sex relations

In Navtej Singh Johar v. Union of India, a Constitution Bench held Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code unconstitutional insofar as it criminalised consensual sexual relations between adults.

The judgment did not invalidate the provision in relation to non-consensual acts or sexual acts involving animals. Its holding was narrower than abolishing Section 377 in full.
