The first Delhi sultans turn military command into a dynasty
Qutb al-Din Aibak founded the Mamluk line after the Ghurid conquests, while Iltutmish secured Delhi and gained wider recognition. Razia later claimed sovereign authority in her own name, revealing both the possibilities and limits of court politics.
The label ‘slave dynasty’ refers to elite military slavery, not to a single social condition. Former military slaves could command armies, govern provinces and found ruling houses.
